About

Jonathan Smith of Artsmith Studios is an educator, musician, mountaineer, and artist whose life has been shaped by exploration—of landscapes, cultures, and ideas. He lived overseas for more than 25 years as a teacher in international schools, as well as served in the Peace Corps, experiences that continue to inform his creative voice. His mixed media collage work draws on nature, astronomy, botanical elements, maps,
mountains, and vintage imagery, layering fragments of the past with themes of place and discovery. Each piece reflects his deep connection to both the natural world and the human search for meaning, offering viewers a sense of wonder, perspective, and reverence for the beauty that surrounds us.
ArtSmith collages are created from an eclectic mix of found, recycled, and traditional art materials. These include postage stamps, old playing cards, used clothing, vintage calendars and games, books, maps, atlases, newspapers, magazines, beer cans, product labels, prayer flags, handmade paper.... anytthing goes! I combine these materials with acrylic and spray paint, stencils, espresso, and red wine, giving discarded and everyday objects new life as richly layered works of art.
